RepairCafé on campus starts in the new semester

Repair instead of buying new! When your household appliance stops working or sewing is needed, the RepairCafé on Campus can help. The self-help workshop helps people make the broken appliance work again under the guidance of volunteers.

The Repair Café takes place every third Tuesday of the month in the Makerspace of the DrePunct Library (Zellescher Weg 17). Not only the volunteers of the initiative Repair Café Dresden/Freital support, but also the employees of the SLUB with knowledge and equipment from 3D printers to sewing machines. Every person is welcome who would like to be supported and advised on repairs free of charge.

In addition to repairing, the café character should not be neglected. Coffee and cake invite to refreshment and conversation.

Registration for the Repair Café online at: https://tu-dresden.de/tu-dresden/umwelt-und-klima/greenoffice/anmeldung-repaircafe or at the Green Office of TU Dresden at 0351 463-33037.

Tutors wanted for the ESE 2022

This year we are once again looking for tutors for the freshers’ introduction (ESE), which will take place from 04.10.2022 to 09.10.2022. In order to give the first-year students the best possible start to their university life at the faculty, we are dependent on your help. Your task as a tutor is to give the freshmen all the important information they need for their start at university, to guide them through the faculty building, to show them the most important places on campus and to explore the city with them.

Especially for the supervision of the English-language Master’s programme Transportation Economics, we are looking for tutors who offer supervision in English. So we are looking forward to foreign students who can take on this task.

This year, you can easily register via the following OPAL course: https://tud.link/nk0a. You can register individually for each event you want to supervise. Therefore, it is not a problem if you do not have time for all ESE events. Only the supervision of a first-year group (including a tour of the faculty, a short explanation of the degree programme, etc.) on Thursday, 06.10.2022 is obligatory, as experience has shown that we need the most tutors there. We will also provide you with a short training session shortly before the ESE. Otherwise, we would be happy if you register for as many other events as possible.

If you have any questions or problems with enrolment, you can also contact us by email at fsrverkehr@tu-dresden.de.

Paddelbootregatta on Aug. 6

Do you feel like getting out of the exam stress, doing nothing for university for a change or just getting to know other people at our faculty? Then come along to our Paddelbootregatta this year. This will take place on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022. We will meet at 9:45 am at the main station under the glass dome, then drive to Königstein and paddle from there with rubber boats down the river Elbe (less work) to Obervogelgesang. You can eat during the lunch break in Rathen or then in the beer garden in Obervogelgesang, where we arrive at about 5 pm.

The participation costs are 10 Euro per person. You can register until Wednesday, 27.8., 3 p.m. at https://tud.link/w1yy. We are looking forward to your participation!

Office opening hours during the examination phase

We as FSR will again offer office opening hours during the exam phase in SoSe 2022 to provide advice, exam printing service and many other services. The opening times are coordinated with the Examination Office for Transport Sciences, which is open during the semester break on Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. by appointment.

The FSR office is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. during the exam period until August 12.

Teaching prize Faculty of Transportation and Traffic Sciences 2022

This year, for the first time, the faculty student council (FSR Verkehr) and the Faculty of Transportation and Traffic Sciences “Friedrich List” are offering a teaching prize to honor particularly outstanding teaching.

Together with the dean’s office of our faculty, we decided in April in the faculty council that there will be, initially limited to three years, a prize endowed with 250€, which will be awarded annually to two teachers:

  • to a teacher in undergraduate teaching
(undergraduate transportation engineering or bachelor transportation economics)
  • to a teacher in the advanced teaching
(main studies in transportation engineering or master studies)

Teaching awards will be presented on Faculty Day, which this year will be November 11.

Process flow:

  1. Pre-selection by the FSR Verkehr
    • Survey students for best course, instructor, and brief explanation by 07/29/2022 in an OPAL course.
    • Ranking of the courses and teachers to be awarded based on the results of the survey, taking into account the size of the course (ratio to the number of participants)
    • Justification of the proposal of the 3 best rated courses per category based on the student evaluations from the OPAL course.
  2. Decision in the faculty council
    • Submission of the ranking and justifications by the FSR Verkehr
    • Award of teaching prize to 1 out of 3 per category by voting.

Other determinations:

  • Teaching imports, i.e. courses offered by other faculties in our department (e.g. mathematics), will be considered. Teaching exports, i.e. courses offered by teaching staff of our faculty to students of other faculties, on the other hand, cannot be considered.
  • A teaching award will be given again to the same teacher after 3 years at the earliest (repetition block in favor of higher chances of winning per teacher).
  • The concept will be evaluated after the third run.

We as FSR welcome the concept and think it is very good to improve teaching at our faculty. However, such a teaching award is only meaningful if the survey is filled out numerously and truthfully until 22.07.2022. Therefore, we ask you for numerous participation! We hope that the quality of teaching at our faculty can be sustainably improved.
