Guest lecture on 24.02. on the “Deutschlandtakt”

On 24 February 2023 at 10:00 a.m. there will be a guest lecture of the Chair of Railway Transport, Public Urban and Regional Transport on the topic “Deutschlandtakt – Development of Railway Planning in Germany” by Mr. Frederik Ropelius, Director of SMA und Partner AG Zurich.

The Deutschlandtakt concept starts with the timetable and derives from it the necessary infrastructure upgrades to create more frequent and faster connections for passenger and freight transport. Deutschlandtakt is a project of the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV). The BMDV pursued three goals with the project: Firstly, to increase the frequency: on the main axes, a train is to run every 30; secondly, to reduce travelling times: Optimised connections between trains in combination with a tailor-made expansion of the infrastructure; and thirdly, nationwide results: The long-distance network connects cities and regions. In this presentation, the project objectives, the procedure, the methodology and selected results will be presented and an outlook on further steps towards implementation will be given.

Frederik Ropelius is Director in the Consulting Division at SMA und Partner AG Zurich and responsible for consulting activities in Germany, Northern and Eastern Europe as well as for new international markets. He also heads the production teams of the SMA offices in Zurich and Frankfurt. He studied at RWTH Aachen University and has been with SMA und Partner AG since 1999 and a partner since 2013.

The event will be held in English.

Withdrawal due to illness – Information of the student members of the examination board

Dear students,

for the engineering degree programmes (VIW, BSI, EVS, LuLo) the modalities for withdrawing from exams in case of illness have changed this semester. Previously it was sufficient to submit a certificate of incapacity for work (“yellow sick note”), now a medical certificate is required. Since some questions and uncertainties have arisen regarding this topic in recent days, we, as student members of the joint examination board for traffic engineering, would like to present our view of the current regulation here:

  • The form published by the Examinations Office is merely a recommendation by the university and is not to be regarded as compulsory.
  • The naming of symptoms of illness is neither required in the examination regulations nor in the resolution of the examination board of 31.01.. Furthermore, such a regulation outside of a law passed by parliament would be constitutionally doubtful, as also described by the Scientific Service of the Bundestag.
  • A certificate of incapacity for work is not valid for withdrawing from examinations.

Best wishes and good luck for the exams

Update: Accident in the POT – partial lifting of the closure of house 2

+++ Update February 12, 2023, 1:30 p.m. +++

After an initial inspection of the damage, a clearing and subsequent expert examination of possible causes for the damage is now being initiated. For the cleanup, the electricity in stairwell 4 must be switched off.

This leads to the following adjustments in the blocking of house 2:

  • The second and third floors of House 2 are expected to remain completely closed until the end of this week. Only through an expert can the release take place, we will inform you as soon as this happens.
  • The first floor can be used again without restrictions as of now.
  • The basement and the second floor can be used during daylight hours (7:30h -16:30h). The reason for the time restriction is the need for illuminated escape routes, which cannot be provided until further notice due to the power shutdown in stairwell 4.

The barriers and signage in the building are adjusted according to this regulation.

Study room E067a in the basement will thus be accessible from 7:30 to 16:30. Access to the lecture halls POT/51, POT/151 and POT/81 is still possible.

In the night from 03. to 04.02.2023 an accident occurred in house 2 on the 3rd floor of the POT. In front of lecture hall 361, the ceiling plaster came loose on an area of approx. 50 m2. Fortunately, no persons were harmed in the process. For the time being, all floors in house 2 are closed for this reason. Study room E067a in the basement is also affected and will not be accessible until further notice. However, access to the lecture halls POT/51, POT/151, POT/251, POT/351 and POT/81 is possible. Only the areas hatched in the graphic below are blocked. We will inform you as soon as the closure is lifted again!

Office hours during the examination period

The FSR will again offer office hours during the examination period in WiSe 2022 to provide consultation, exam printing service and many other services. The opening hours are coordinated with the examination office of Transport Sciences, which is open during the lecture-free period on Tuesdays from 13:00 to 17:30 and on Thursdays from 09:00 to 11:00 by appointment.

The FSR office is guaranteed to be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am – 12pm and 1pm – 3pm during the core exam period, which is until 03/03. Feel free to drop by!
